ABOUT 60 jobs are at set to be lost from the district as kitchen retailer Magnet has announced it is proposing to close its finance and IT functions office in Cottingley, Bingley.

A spokesman for Swedish company Nobia, which owns Magnet, said a full consultation with staff will now take place.

He said: "The company has announced that it is proposing to close its Cottingley office and relocate the current functions to other existing Nobia UK premises.

"There is no anticipated reduction in the number of roles proposed to be relocated.

"We recognise the hard work and commitment delivered by our teams and it is our aim to retain as many colleagues as possible at the new locations and utilise the skill base we have built in the business.

Subject to consultation with our potentially affected colleagues and their representatives, it is proposed that the business’ finance and IT functions which are currently based at Cottingley, should be relocated to alternative existing Nobia UK premises in West Yorkshire and the North East, and the Cottingley office should be closed, affecting approximately 60 colleagues.

"There is no proposed reduction in the number of roles available for potentially affected colleagues at the proposed alternative premises.

"A full consultation process with those colleagues who are potentially affected by this proposal and their representatives, will now commence."
