AN ORGANISATION has won recognition in an awards scheme for its support of staff ‘huddles’ at hospital sites across the region – but the project just missed out on the top prize.
The Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) Improvement Academy programme was shortlisted in the Royal College of Physicians’ Patient Care Awards.
Through its HUSH scheme, the academy is supporting more than 120 frontline hospital teams to integrate ‘safety huddles’ into their routine clinical care, to identify ways of better supporting patients and keeping them safe.
Last month, the Heather ward at Airedale Centre for Mental Health – in the grounds of Airedale Hospital – received AHSN accreditation for the quality of its huddles. Ward workers have twice-daily gatherings.
The academy was also nominated in the innovation category of the awards scheme, which it won. It was recognised for its so-called electronic Frailty Index.
