THE Kaiser Chiefs will perform at this year’s Bingley Music Live, it has been announced.

The group, fronted by Keighley-born Ricky Wilson, will take to the stage as the headliners on Saturday, September 2.

They are the second act announced for this years’s festival, held at Myrtle Park between September 1 and 3, following the announcement of Manic Street Preachers, who will headline on the opening night.

The Kaiser Chiefs began life when bassist Simon Rix, former drummer Nick Hodgson and keyboard player Nick ‘Peanut’ Baines attended St Mary’s Secondary School in Menston.

But the band were not officially formed until 2000 and had their breakthrough hit in 2005 with I Predict a Riot.

One of their other hits, Ruby, has sold more than 461,000 copies since it was released in 2007. Mercury-nominated debut album Employment propelled the band to three Brit Awards wins and its successor, Yours Truly, Angry Mob, went twice-platinum.

Their sixth studio album, Stay Together, released last year, saw the band move away from new wave rock to dance-focused sounds.

They are on an eight-date UK arena tour which will be followed by a number of open air shows this summer and an appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival in June.

Lead singer Mr Wilson had further national exposure when he was a coach on The Voice between 2014 and last year.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for environment, sport and culture, backed the latest addition to Bingley’s bill. She said: “I am delighted to see another big name on the bill - the build-up to this year’s festival has already started.”

She added: “I am sure people will be excited to see who else is going to be announced over the coming weeks.”

This year, camping will be available at Bradford & Bingley Sports Club, Wagon Lane, Bingley, for music fans.

Last year’s event included 1990s groups Travis, All Saints, 80s rockers Echo and the Bunnymen and rapper Tinie Tempah.

It proved a rain-soaked Bingley Music Live as the bad weather held off until the Saturday of the event when a day-long deluge turned Myrtle Park into a mini mudbath beneath 90,000 boots and wellies.
