TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill this morning in Baildon after an articulated lorry got stuck after trying to go up a mud track.

The lorry got stuck in Otley Road, Baildon, after trying to use a mud track to get to the Tong Park Industrial Estate, but got stuck at the side of the road.

Onlooker Scott Ashdown, who works at the nearby Chris Wright (Baildon) Ltd, helped to free the lorry.

He said: "This happens from time to time but this is the worst I have seen it.

"Traffic was all the way back to Shipley. It was horrific and probably backed up even further.

"I've never seen it this bad, he had gone up the track then tried to reverse and got stuck on a grass verge causing some damage to a barrier.

"In the end we got one of our trucks and attached it to the trailer and pulled him free which was a task in itself, it took about 25 minutes to get him free.

"The truck was from Hungary and the driver didn't speak a word of English."

Mr Ashdown called the police when the lorry got stuck, and officers attended the incident.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We got a call at 7.50am of a vehicle reported as stuck on a grass verge in Otley Road, Baildon.

"We requested recovery but then the vehicle was freed so recovery was cancelled.

"The vehicle was freed at around 9.45am, and Bradford Council was contacted about a damaged barrier."
