SALTAIRE Arts Trail has been granted £15,000 of Lottery funding to help stage this year’s event.

The three-day festival, which will be held in the village between May 27 and 29, has been boosted by the cash from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

The event showcases more than 100 local and national artists, selected by a panel of industry experts, who have the chance to show and sell their work in Saltaire’s public buildings and private homes.

Thousands of visitors each year follow a trail of art installations and craft stalls around the village.

The Lottery funding, from the Arts Council’s Grants for the Arts, will go towards videos to be projected on the outside of houses in the village, imagining the scene behind each door.

Cash will also be spent on a digital arts hunt, which will follow a trail of images, music and soundbites through Saltaire.

The theme to this year’s trail is Inside Out.

Julia Calver, chairman of event organisers Saltaire Inspired, said she was pleased to secure the funding for a third year.

She said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from Arts Council England to support specially-commissioned projects as part of the tenth Saltaire Arts Trail.

“It is a fabulous endorsement of the quality of the work and creative talent of the artists involved.

“It is also important to us to make art work accessible and increase the engagement in events, and combining innovative technology and contemporary art will ensure we can achieve this.”

Saltaire Arts Trail will also include its traditional open houses trail, where village residents open the doors to their homes to visitors.

A makers’ fair will also be held in Victoria Hall, Victoria Road, showcasing the work of arts and crafts exhibitors, and has been expanded this year with an extra 20 exhibitors in a third room.

A number of artist-led activities for families and workshops will follow the Inside Out theme.

Arts charity Saltaire Inspired organises Saltaire Arts Trail, makers’ fairs in May and September and the Living Advent Calendar in December.
