TOWNS and villages across the district will feel more festive this weekend with a number of Christmas lights switch-on events.

Saltaire's Christmas lights switch-on is on Sunday at Victoria Hall from 4pm.

Ulrike Knox-McConnell, Saltaire Village Society committee member, said: “The switch-on is always a lovely event which brings the community together for drinks, singing and a chance to see what our lovely shops and community groups have to offer.”

Meanwhile, boy band star Duncan James will switch on Keighley’s Christmas lights.

The Blue singer will sign autographs and pose for photos with fans at the November 27 event.

Popular characters from children’s TV show Paw Patrol will be in the town centre from 10am to 2.30pm and Herr Jens’ Oompah Band will play festive music.’

The lights will be switched on in Bow Street at 4.30pm.

Bingley’s Christmas Fair will be held in the town’s Market Square, Main Street on Saturday from 10am. It will be followed by Bradford City legend John Hendrie switching on the town’s lights at 4.30pm.

Ilkley’s Christmas lights will illuminate the town on Saturday from 5pm at an event which will also feature traditional carol singing and celebrations along The Grove.

Haworth is gearing up for its latest Scroggling the Holly Weekend, which features two parades up Main Street on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The Saturday parade is for Fairy Day, and starts at the bottom of the street at 2pm.

Haworth resident Martin Nutter will lead a procession of youngsters dressed as fairies, elves and goblins up the street.

The main Scroggling the Holly procession begins at the bottom of the street on Sunday, also at 2pm.

It will feature a parade of children dressed in Victorian costumes walking up the street, singing carols and stopping at the top of Main Street for the crowning of this year’s Holly Queen.

Meanwhile, Bradford Model Engineering Society will hold its annual exhibition on Saturday at Saltaire Methodist Church, Saltaire Road, Shipley, between 1pm and 5pm. It will feature more than 100 models. Entrance is free.

A free advent procession will be held at Bradford Cathedral on Sunday between 4pm and 5.30pm. It will include a service of Christmas Carols and readings to celebrate the start of advent.

Green Park in Heckmondwike will be lit up this weekend during HeckmondLIGHT where a host of new digital commissions are illuminated on Saturday from 4pm to 8pm, with the countdown to the switch-on taking place at 6.30pm.

Shoppers can get into the festive spirit at a Christmas Indoor Market on Saturday, November 26, between 11am and 2pm, at Inspire Bradford Business Park, Newlands House One, Newlands Way, Bradford.

A vintage Christmas Vintage Fair is at Cliffe Castle Museum, Spring Gardens Lane, Keighley, all weekend between 11am and 4pm both days.
