A JUDGE has ruled that £1.4 million confiscation proceedings against a former Bradford doctor, deported to India after serving a three year jail sentence for money laundering, must continue.
Lawyers for Manjula Salian (pictured) argued that because her whereabouts are unknown and she has no money, the Proceeds of Crime Act hearing should be abandoned.
Salian, formerly of Nab Wood Drive, Nab Wood, Shipley, was imprisoned in September 2014 after she was convicted at Bradford Crown Court of converting criminal property.
Her doctor husband, Zakir Ahmed, 47, was jailed for nine years for playing a leading role in a plot to send £3.5m of criminal cash out of the country.
Ahmed absconded to Estonia but was extradited back to the UK.
Yesterday, Judge David Hatton QC adjourned the hearing until December 9.
