A PUB has been given a regional prize for its dedication to its four-legged customers.

The Old Glen House has secured the DogBuddy Dog-friendly Pub Award for Yorkshire for its treatment of its canine visitors.

The award was voted for by the public and judged by a panel of judges from the RSPCA, pub trade magazine The Morning Advertiser, Your Dog Magazine and Richard Setterwall, the chief executive and co-founder of DogBuddy.com.

The pub, in Prod Lane, Baildon, won the award for its provision of free dog treats, dog bowls filled with water and dog beds available by the pub’s fire.

The only room where dogs are barred, is the dining room.

Landlord Ed Harrison who has co-run the pub with partner, Louise Johnson, since February 2014, has two dogs himself, a black Labrador called Rayne, who is 16 months, and a Shih Tzu named Tula, aged seven.

He said: “We are over the moon to hear that we have won the regional award. It is a bit of recognition for us after we have spent time changing it. We took up the carpets for wooden floorboards to make it easier for dogs.

“Being animal lovers and dog owners ourselves, we understand that they are part of the family and to allow people to come in for a pint with their dogs makes sense.

“The idea was always to create a pub that we would love to visit with our own dogs.

“It’s the type of pub we would like to go to. Dogs are part of the family.”

He said the pub’s location made it a favourite stop-off for pet owners.

“We are right by Shipley Glen, so we are a stop during people’s walks with their dogs,” he said.

“The dogs who come to the pub get better looked after than the customers do sometimes! They all jump up to the bar to get their free treats.”

The DogBuddy Dog-friendly Pub Awards are a national scheme to show appreciation to the pubs which go a little bit further for any punters who take their dogs.

Mr Setterwall paid tribute to the pub after it clinched the prize.

“We launched these awards to really find the cream of the crop when it comes to dog-friendly pubs and with The Old Glen House, we have done just that,” he said.

“We regard dog welfare and care above all, and the winning pubs reflect these same values in their superb service - going the extra mile for their canine visitors.

“We hope these awards inspire dog-lovers nationwide to discover their local pubs. Congratulations to The Old Glen House - very well deserved.”
