THE success of Epilepsy Action’s reindeer run has led to this year’s event being moved to a new location.

The Reindeer Stampede is moving from Roberts Park in Saltaire, its home for the last six years, to Lister Park in Manningham, Bradford, on Sunday, December 4.

Organisers of the 5k run, proceeds of which go to the Yeadon-based charity, said they had decided to move venue so more runners were able to take part.

Last year’s event at the Saltaire park attracted a field of 280, when people aged between two and 72 took part and opted to wear fancy dress or don full animal costumes.

Carl Foster, fundraising events officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “Over the past six years, the Epilepsy Action Reindeer Stampede has gone from strength to strength.

“Since we started in 2010, the Reindeer Stampede has raised over £30,000 and makes a huge difference to the lives of people affected by epilepsy.

“Runners from all over West Yorkshire have joined us to kick-start the festive season and raise funds for a brilliant cause.

“We hope that people will join us at our new location, Lister Park, and make this year the best yet.

Councillor Martin Love (Green, Shipley) said it was a blow for Saltaire to lose the race but he could understand the move.

He said: “I can understand why it has moved. It’s a very popular event.

“It is a shame it has moved from Roberts Park but I can understand the desire to get more people.

“Roberts Park is a great location for that sort of thing.

“A junior park run is still held at Roberts Park every Sunday.”

Registration starts at 9am on race day in Lister Park. Advance entrance is £14 for adults and £8 for children aged 15 and under. People can sign up on the day for an additional £2.

The event’s 400-metre children’s fun run, for those aged under eight, costs £3 on the day.

There are also volunteering opportunities for non-runners. All finishers will receive a medal and a mince pie.

People are also encouraged to wear fancy dress and everyone who enters will receive a free pair of reindeer antlers.

All runners at this year’s event will be serenaded around the course by a brass band and the All Together Now singers.

The run will raise funds to help support more than 600,000 people affected by epilepsy in the UK. There are more than 21,000 people who suffer from the condition in West Yorkshire.
