Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Visitors to All Saints Church, Bingley, are offered the chance to try out bell ringing with Bingley Handbells

THE bells were tolling in Bingley yesterday as Heritage Open Days got into full swing in the district.

Bingley All Saints Church opened its doors to allow people the chance to learn more about the historic bells that have rung out over the town for centuries.

Members of the public can have a rare trip to the top of the church’s bell tower, to see the bells which date back to the 17th century.

People can also have a go on a mobile bell, learn about the history of the church and its bell, and find out what it takes to become a bellringer.

The church’s restored handbells will be on show for people to have a try and there will be demonstrations throughout the day.

A display is also on show at the church detailing the history of the art of bellringing.

The bell ringing open days at the church, in Main Street, Bingley, will continue this weekend, with the church open to visitors from 2pm to 4pm today and tomorrow.

For more information about the open days, email info@bingleyhandbells.org.uk or call Bingley Bell Ringers on 07807 159086.
