A £6 MILLION dementia care home for Bingley complete with a “Coronation Street” memory lane, cinema and hairdresser has got the go-ahead without a single objection.

The luxury complex will have 67 beds and provide 70 new local jobs when it opens in 2018 on a prime site behind the disused auction market site on Keighley Road.

Twin brothers Danny and Damian Holt are behind the project, and hope to create a larger version of their Glen Nursing Home in Baildon, which opened two years ago.

Both are trained psychiatric nurses and have another family-run care home in Leeds, which was the first home run by their father Brendan and where they both grew up.

The application to build in Baildon was submitted six months ago and Danny Holt said they were now keen to get started.

“Firstly we are delighted that this has gone through without a single objection – that’s a really nice start.

“We’re really excited and just want to get on with this state-of-the-art project.

“The plan is to start building in September and hopefully be open in January 2018.”

Mr Holt said the finished home would feature an open air “memory lane” where residents could look into shop fronts built into an exterior wall to remind them of their youth.

“It’s modelled on an old-fashioned sweet shop display which we have inside at Baildon,” Mr Holt said.

“There will be a butchers, a barbers, a sweetshop and even a mechanic’s garage.

“ I’ve got two vintage cars sitting at home which will go into that.

“Inside we’re also going to have an old-style toyshop.”

Functioning amenities will include an on-site hairdressers and also a large cinema.

“We have a cinema at Baildon, but this will be much bigger.

“We are also having a bigger water fountain made to stand at the front.

“It’s currently being carved in China and will be five metres high and five metres in diameter and made from red sunset marble.”

The new winding driveway will be from Harold Street, where the Holts bought two existing bungalows which will now be demolished.

Flood risk means the building will be raised on metre-high stilts set into a concrete raft.

“It will all be landscaped with trees and safe walk areas for residents around the new home,” Mr Holt said.

“My brother Damian will be running the Bingley home and we will be taking on new people from the Bingley area and that will mean everyone from catering and maintenance staff through to care and nursing staff.”

Ward Councillor John Pennington (Con, Bingley) said: “This is good news for Bingley.

“It’s just the sort of thing that should be built at a location like that.”
