MILLIONS of partisan football fans across the country have no doubts about who to support in tomorrow’s big match between England and Russia - but things are not quite so straightforward for one family in the Bradford district.

When the European Championships match kicks off, there will be split loyalties in the household of Anastassia Belynskaia, 42, who lives in Shipley but hails from Kalingrad in west Russia.

Miss Belynskaia is looking forward to tomorrow’s tournament opener for both countries and is predicting a win for her homeland.

She has lived in England for the last 21 years and now works in the faculty of social sciences at the University of Bradford and also as a Russian language tutor.

Miss Belynskaia will be watching the match with her family, including son Greg Gibbons, 11, who is a huge football fan and supports Burnley and has divided loyalties.

She said: “I will be watching the game and supporting Russia.

“I do hope Russia wins and I think they will 2-1.

“Gregory supports Burnley like his dad. He is a huge football fan and has thousands of football cards and has Russia football kits too.

“My loyalty when it comes to any international event is, of course, to Russia.

“But my household is split, as my partner is English and my son is half-Russian.

“My son has been talking to me about the match, even though I’m not a big football fan.

“Greg expressed a strong wish to say that his desired outcome of the game is to be a draw. His loyalties are equally split.

“But I love Yorkshire and do consider it the best place on earth.”

After they face Russia on Saturday, England play further group games against Wales, on Thursday, June 16, and Slovakia, on Monday, June 20.

Meanwhile, fans have been warned against drink driving during the Euros tournament. Chris Davies, the IAM RoadSmart driver restraining academy project leader, urged fans to plan ahead of how much alcohol they will be drinking. He said: “Certainly avoid drinking at all costs if you will be getting behind the wheel, you will only end up putting your licence, livelihood and liberty at stake.”
