TRAFFIC concerns have scuppered plans for a empty building in Saltaire to be converted into a bar and cafe.
Milanella Massimo had submitted plans to refurbish and change the use of 202 Saltaire Road (pictured), a shop unit that has previously been an off license, carpet showroom and furniture shop.
The application received mixed responses, with some residents writing to support plans to bring it back into use and other raising concerns about where customers would park, and that the new business would cause the value of their houses to fall.
There are four parking places on the site, and planning officers felt the business would cause extra traffic clogging nearby streets.
The plans have been refused, with a planning report saying: "The council's highway officer does not consider that sufficient off-street parking is provided. The proposed on site parking falls well short of the recommended 14 spaces for a unit of this size.
"It is accepted that there is a public car park across the road but it is not felt that customers will use this, there is no pedestrian crossing at this point and it is more likely that customers will park in the surrounding residential streets."
