A SCOUT from Bingley has been commended by TV star Bear Grylls for helping out his community in the aftermath of the Boxing Day floods in the district

Joshua Capper, 15, helped with the clean-up operation at various locations, sorted out donations and prepared and delivered food parcels.

Chief Scout Grylls presented the teenager with a special commendation award at a camp on Sunday after the Scout Association was told of the help he gave.

Bear said Joshua (both pictured) had been a great asset to the flood relief team, and added: "He gave up almost all of his holiday to help out and I feel he should be commended for his enthusiasm, hard work and great

community spirit."

Joshua said: "I saw the effect the floods were having on the community and just wanted to help out. It was a real surprise when Bear Grylls stopped by and absolutely fantastic to meet him and receive the award."

In addition, Chris Watson, district commissioner for Aire Valley District Scouts, was presented with an autographed framed collage as a thank you for all the Scouts' help and support to the community.
