A NEW social enterprise called Flower Power has started to help people develop business skills and make cash by selling hanging baskets.

Backed by Shipley-based charity Health Action Local Engagement and funded through the Church Urban Fund, the scheme was unveiled at Crag Road Methodist Church with support from housing group Incommunities and residents in the Crag Road and Owlet area.

Participants will produce hanging baskets for sale in the neighbourhood and at the Hale Hub based in Kirkgate, Shipley. The profits from Flower Power will be reinvested into the programme.

The programme will build on the work done over the past few years, developing a piece of unused land into the Blooming Marvellous Community Garden - which was recently targeted by vandals.

Hale development worker Joel Howard-Birt said: "We are extremely excited about this new initiative.

"We hope it will bring people together from the community and they will have a real sense of achievement from their participation, alongside developing their skill."
