A YOUNG man who drove on to a muddy field to "check out the views" with his girlfriend has been given a warning by police for his off-road excursion.

An officer from Bradford's nuisance vehicle team was patrolling Windhill and Wrose on Tuesday when he came across a red Ford Focus (pictured) on the grassed area at the top of Gaisby Lane near to Carr Lane.

The officer stopped to check the reason for driving off-road and to make sure the driver was fit and well and had not suffered an illness at the wheel.

The driver, a Keighley man, stated that he had pulled off-road to check out the views with his female passenger.

A police spokesman said: "Unfortunately for him the grass was so wet from all the recent rain that he was unable to move the car to leave.

"By this point he had caused damage to the grassed area due to attempts to move the car.

"That area of land is not designed for vehicle use and is strictly prohibited from such use. Although his intentions appeared innocent at the time is has resulted in damage to the land.

"The driver had no previous anti-social warnings so was issued with a section 59 warning under the Police Reform Act 2002.

"It was fully explained about his careless behaviour and that his warning lasts for 12 months."
