WORKERS at two businesses in Bingley will do battle in a charity football match this month.

Employees at UK Asset Resolution (UKAR) in Croft Road, Crossflatts, and ACS Business Supplies, in Dowley Gap Lane, will take each other on in an 11-a-side game on an all-weather pitch at Titus Salt School, Higher Coach Road in Baildon.

The clash, which kicks off at 6.30pm on Friday, January 29, is in aid of the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit (PSBRU) at the University of Bradford, and the Yorkshire Children's Trust charity.

It has been organised by Elliott Horan, of UKAR, and Zach Teasdale, who works for ACS.

Mr Horan said: "Our team (UKAR) are donating to PSBRU. This was established in the aftermath of the Bradford City Fire, and has become a lasting memorial to all those who suffered there. The continued existence of the PSBRU depends heavily on donations from the public.

"We are hoping to make a huge financial contribution to the PSBRU for the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the disaster, in which 56 supporters died, two of whom supported Lincoln City and 258 other supporters suffered injuries, of whom many sustained serious burns."

He added: "This is an 11-a-side match with 90 minutes of action guaranteed."

The Burns Unit fundraising appeal has reached £275,104, just under £25,000 short of its £300,000 target, which fundraisers hope to reach by May.

Alan Carling, chairman of the Remembrance Panel of the BCFC Supporters Board, said: "It's great that these two teams have thought of supporting the Burns Unit as part of their charity event.

"This is much appreciated - why not get down to Titus Salt School on the 29th to support the teams, and help add to the total for the Commemorative Appeal?

"The magnificent response from people in Bradford and around the country means that the appeal total has just passed £275,000. This is within touching distance of the target of £300,000, which we hope to reach before the appeal ends formally in May."

Spectators can pay on the gate on the day. It is £2.50 for adults and £1 for children. Anyone who cannot get along to the game, but who wants to donate, can visit virginmoneygiving.com/team/UKARAthletic.

Mr Horan added: "We have a presentation after the game at Suburban bar in Bingley. They've kindly lent us the function suite for free."
