PLANS to install a "lightning protection system" at Victoria Hall in Saltaire have been approved by Bradford Council.

The application, which consists of a number of metal tapes and conductors installed at various parts of the building, says the system will "serve to protect this building, the services and users within it from the potential life threatening and damage that could occur if a large scale lightning strike were to happen."

The listed building has no protection against lightning and conductors will be coloured to match it.

A planning officers report said: "The proposed works are considered to be justified and will not be harmful to the character of the listed building, Saltaire Conservation Area or the World Heritage Site."
