A former children's doctor from the Bradford district who was secretly filmed taking drugs before going on shift has admitted possessing cocaine, police have said.

Colin Ferrie was handed a 12-month conditional discharge after he pleaded guilty at Leeds Magistrates' Court, West Yorkshire Police said.

Ferrie, of Waters Walk, Apperley Bridge, Bradford, was filmed by a national Sunday newspaper taking cocaine before going to work as a consultant paediatric neurologist at Leeds General Infirmary.

He has since resigned from his post at the hospital.

The 52-year-old, formerly of Baildon, was charged with possession of a class A drug after a police investigation.

A separate charge of possession of the class C drug GHB was withdrawn.

Ferrie was ordered by magistrates to pay £85 costs and a £15 court charge.

Detective Superintendent Pat Twiggs, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "In his job, Colin Ferrie was directly responsible for people's wellbeing.

"He abused the trust that was placed in him, by becoming involved with drugs."

Scott Pendlebury, 26, of Daisy Fields, Bradford, also pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and was told to pay a £230 fine, £85 costs and a £20 court charge.
