BRITISH Transport Police are scouring CCTV footage after 23 cars and a waiting shelter at Shipley Railway Station were damaged.

Officers are also speaking to witnesses and taking statements as well as carrying out forensic tests on evidence found at the scene after it happened shortly before 7.30am on Sunday.

The cars had been parked up in the station’s two car parking areas which are free, a number of them had been left there overnight from Saturday.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said “Two teenagers, aged 14 and 17, were arrested near to Shipley station and were taken into custody and interviewed by officers.

“They have both been released on police bail until Wednesday, April 22.

“We are currently undertaking further enquiries including reviewing CCTV from the station and surrounding area, speaking to witnesses and taking statements. Forensic analysis of evidence found at the scene yesterday is also under way.”

A spokesperson for Northern Rail said: “We work closely with the British Transport Police to deter such incidents and whilst they are rare, we take them very seriously.”
