SHIPLEY MP Philip Davies has rebranded Labour leader Ed Miliband as “Ed Moribund” because he is claimed to be such a rare sight in his Doncaster constituency.

Conservative MP Mr Davies told the House of Commons it was hypocritical for Mr Miliband to call for MPs to be barred from taking second jobs and concentrate on their constituency work.

Mr Davies told the debate: “I wondered on what basis the leader of the opposition thought he was a world-leading authority on being a world-leading constituency MP.

“He happens to be my mum’s MP, and the MP for the area where I was born and brought up. It happens to be the consensus of opinion there that he doesn’t really care about Doncaster, he is hardly ever in Doncaster, and he is known locally as Ed Moribund rather than Ed Miliband.”

Mr Miliband was given the safe South Yorkshire seat in 2005 while working for Gordon Brown as a Treasury advisor. His family home is in London.

The Labour Party rebuffed Mr Davies’ claims.

“This is utter rubbish. Ed is a conscientious constituency MP, he takes his duties as MP very seriously and is there regularly,” said a spokesman.

“Rather than engaging in pathetic stunts, Philip Davies would be better off standing up for his constituents who have been disproportionately hit by the Tory-led government’s council cut
