IT WAS rhyme time for parents and children who took part in a challenge at Shipley Library.

Bradford Council’s libraries are challenging under fives to take up their Rhyme Challenge, which will run at a range of libraries across the district until April.

The first Rhyme Challenge session, which was held yesterday at Shipley Library, attracted a group of 40 parents and young children.

Further sessions will be held at the Well Croft site on February 4, 11 and 18.

The parents and children have been asked to learn five nursery rhymes over the four-weekly sessions, including The Wheels on the Bus, 1 2 3 4 5 and Round and Round the Garden.

Each youngster will receive a certificate for taking part from Bookstart Bear.

The participating 11 district libraries include Clayton, Wyke and Holme Wood.

Susan Brewster-Craig, Bradford Council’s development officer early years - Bookstart, said: “Good rhymers make good readers.

“The event also tries to encourage people to come to their local library.

“Four sessions are held at each library.

“The children learn the rhymes each week and then sing them together.”
