SHIPLEY MP Philip Davies has failed in his bid to get the top boss who wants to give MPs an 11 per cent pay rise from having his contract extended.
Mr Davies (Con) was one of 18 MPs who voted against extending the appointment of Sir Ian Kennedy as chairman of the Independent Parliamentary Standards until June 1, 2016.
A total of 384 voted in favour of the move.
The independent body was introduced after the MPs expenses scandal in 2009.
Mr Davies said: “I have never voted on MPs’ pay and I have always said and believed MPs should not be voting to set their own pay.
“That said, despite IPSA being independent, I also do not think that MPs should be getting an 11 per cent pay rise.
“In the current financial climate, and for Sir Ian to be so out of step with public opinion, means that he is probably not the right person for the job.”
