DANCE fans are invited to a charity event packed with workshops, lessons and high-kicking fun at the 41st Saltaire Day of Dance this Saturday.

Places are still available for the unique community event when all the dance tutors and performers give their time to support worthy causes.

Around 500 people usually attend the event, which includes 38 dance, music and song workshops throughout the day in Victoria Hall.

Organiser Denise Craghill said she hoped to be just as busy as in previous years.

" All our excellent dance tutors and evening performers give their time free to raise money for good causes and provide a fantastic day of dance with an unrivalled choice of workshops," she said.

"We’re very pleased to be able to keep on offering new workshops, along with all the usual favourites and some very popular returning tutors. With 38 workshops there is a great variety to chose from, all suitable for beginners and more experienced dancers.

"If you’ve thought about coming before, now’s your chance to give it a try!"

Recently added workshops include 5 Rhythms Dance, Lindy Hop, Biodanza, Broadway Musicals, Charleston and Somatics.

New styles include Egyptian Pop and traditional Greek Dance as well as Flamenco with fabulous new tutor Luisa Galan.

A family ceilidh, raising funds for the Chernobyl Childrens Project will take place from 5pm to 6.30pm with Zig Zag and caller Darryl Foxwell.

The day concludes with the main ceilidh from 8pm featuring Phoenix Ceilidh Band with caller Tony Charnock.

This will be complemented by an East European Klezmer ceilidh with The Klatsh and a Ceroc Party with Yorkshire Wy-Jive and DJs.

Each workshop lasts 90 minutes

All the proceeds, except for the Family Ceilidh, will be donated to Yorkshire CND, Oxfam and Campaign Against the Arms Trade.
