A TEENAGER was assaulted in the aftermath of an apparent road rage incident in Shipley and police are now appealing for information.

The incident started at about 3.30pm on Friday when a 57-year-old man driving a black estate car in Westgate found a Mercedes-Benz van approaching in the opposite direction, driving the wrong way on a one way street.

As the two vehicles pulled alongside each other, the van driver is alleged to have made threats to the car driver and his 16-year-old passenger.

Although the vehicles then drove away, the 16-year-old later got out of the car outside the former Connection restaurant and was involved in an altercation, allegedly with another man from the Mercedes van.

The victim was assisted by members of the public and the attacker fled to the van, which was driven off towards Fox Corner.

Following the assault the victim needed medical attention for a cut to his head and bruising to his upper body.

Since then police have arrested a 46-year-old man and 15-year-old boy on suspicion of assault and they have been released on bail.

Officers are still investigating and have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Lyons, of Bradford District CID, said: "We believe that there were a lot of people in Westgate at the time of this incident, so we would appeal to anyone who witnessed this attack to come forward and tell us what they know."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 5901 Cheshire at Bradford District CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
