THE clean-up and dismantling operation is well under way at Myrtle Park after the three-day Bingley Music Live festival.

Thousands of people attended the event, with top acts including Pet Shop Boys, Example, Shed Seven, Gaz Coombes, Naughty Boy, MNEK and Nick Mulvey.

The event also raised £1,730 for Nordoff Robins Music Therapy and the Teenage Cancer Trust through the sale of programmes, festival laminates, signed guitar raffles and guest list schemes.

Bradford Council staff were today continuing to clean up the site and carefully dismantling the staging and rigging.

Andy Ross, events officer at the Council, said a clearance team visited on Monday and did a litter pick, which resulted in 95 per cent of the litter being cleared from the site.

As structures, such as the stage, cabins and marquees are dismantled, further litter pick-ups take place.

"A team of people will be here for the whole of the week, and by Friday hopefully the park will be back to normal," said Mr Ross.

"The last thing to go will be the portable road, which was the first thing to go in.

"We had a bit of rain on the Friday, but the ground held up well. There may be some areas of grass that need some re-seeding, but compared to previous years it has been pretty straight forward."

Councillor Andrew Thornton, the Council's executive member for environment and sport, added: "This year's festival lived up to its fantastic billing. We hope everyone who attended enjoyed it. Staff are now hard at work to clean up the site and re-open the park."

During the weekend event, organiser Lee O'Hanlon said this year’s festival may have been the busiest yet, with attendance believed to have been close to the event's 15,000 capacity.

The Pet Shop Boys were arguably the biggest name the festival has so far attracted, Mr O’Hanlon added.

The electro duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe performed favourites like West End Girls, Always On My Mind and Go West.
