A Cold Calling Control Zone has been set up in Thackley with support from Bradford Council to shield residents from door-to-door crooks.

Funded by a partnership of West Yorkshire Trading Standards, Neighbourhood Policing Teams, Neighbourhood Watch, Area Committees and local housing associations, Cold Calling Control Zones have been funded in areas where residents have suffered at the hands of rogue traders and doorstep criminals.

The zones have been hailed a huge success nationally and have been shown to reduce overall crime in the areas where they have been launched.

Thackley is already a Neighbourhood Watch area, but local resident Deborah Howard and her neighbours worked with the local Council Warden to introduce the Cold Calling Control Zone in Ballantyne Road, Bantree Court, Jowett Park Crescent and Trenam Park Drive.

Deborah Howard said: “The aim is to stop unsolicited calls to people’s homes and make people feel safer in their homes.”

Residents there are asked to report all incidents of cold calling, offering as much information as possible, to the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 08454 040506 so that action can be taken against the individuals.
