The Airedale Hospital Trust has warned patients that moving its A&E unit to a temporary location for a year will be “challenging at times”.
Works to demolish the existing A&E unit and build a new £6 million department in its place begins on Tuesday. Until the new unit is up and running, a period expected to take between ten and 12 months, the A&E will be relocated into the hospital’s former endoscopy unit.
The trust said space would be tighter in the temporary unit and asked for patience while the works are carried out.
The old building will be demolished in December.
Meg Crossley, consultant in emergency medicine at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Space is tighter in the temporary facility but we are working hard to ensure that patients’ experiences in the relocated A&E department are still good ones.”
