Bradford’s singing star Kimberley Walsh is clearing out her closet – to raise funds for a cause close to her heart.

The Girls Aloud singer, who is from Allerton, is auctioning off some of her designer dresses in the hope of raising thousands of pounds for The Haven, a charity in Leeds which supported her former dance teacher, Deana Morgan, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006.

The Haven provides one-to-one support for breast cancer patients and their families. Deana, who runs Shipley-based DM Academy, experienced the benefits first-hand and, in appreciation, staged a show at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre to celebrate her 50th birthday last autumn, which raised funds for The Haven.

Kimberley, who was guest of honour at the event, is a keen supporter of The Haven, participating in events such as a fundraising ‘high-heel-a-thon’ around Leeds in 2009.

“I want people to know that The Haven is out there and they can use it. It helped Deana so much and it can help a lot of other women too,” says Kimberley.

Using the live auction website jumblebee.co.uk, Kimberley is urging fans to “dip deep for this great charity”.

Her aim is to raise a minimum of £5,000 from her donated dresses, including gowns from renowned designers and fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen, Diane Von Furstenberg, Max Mara and Alexander Wang.

Kimberley, who recently announced she is expecting her first baby, sported the stunning dresses at significant occasions such as the Girls Aloud press conference to announce their Ten Tour in 2013, her joint birthday party with Sarah Harding and when she announced nominations for the 2009 Brit awards.

Each dress comes with a personalised pack including a special message from Kimberley to the winner along with a signed copy of her new book, A Whole Lot Of History.

“On the auction site you’ll be able to have a look at the different dresses, all of which I have worn at some of the amazing events I have been lucky enough to attend over the last couple of years,” she says. “All you need to do is make a bid for your favourite and make sure you keep an eye out in case someone outbids you! So please dig deep for this great charity.”

Kimberley’s £5,000 auction target will provide Haven treatments for five women, including holistic therapies such as acupuncture, aromatherapy and yoga, as well as financial, emotional and nutritional counselling.

Fashionistas can browse through all the designer dresses via Kimberley’s Jumblebee site. A new dress will be released for auction on Kimberley’s Jumblebee site each weekday until Thursday.

The first dress, an Alexander Wang halter neck worn at an evening out to celebrate Kimberley’s 26th birthday, was released yesterday and the final release, a Lisa Marie scuba dress, goes on tomorrow.

As well as auctioning off her dresses, Kimberley has also boosted funds for The Haven with her recent appearance on ITV’s Catchphrase with her mum Diane. The pair raised an impressive £8,800 for the charity.

Haven manager Debra Horsman says: “We really enjoyed watching her and her mum on Catchphrase, and we are so grateful for her continued support of The Yorkshire Haven.”

Prior to appearing on Catchphrase, Kimberley, along with other family members, sister Amy, boyfriend Justin Scott, brother-in-law Joe and brother Adam, won £1,000 on ITV’s Celebrity Family Fortunes.

Kimberley donated the winnings to another charity she supports, CMV Action. The charity supported a family friend, Lisa Midgley, and her family after Lisa’s son Christian was diagnosed with birth disorder congenital cytomegalovirus, affecting around one in 150 new-born babies.
