Former school friends have gathered to remember Casey Mason on the anniversary of her tragic death.

The nine-year-old was cycling when she was involved in an accident with a lorry in Stockbridge, Keighley, and died four years ago.

Now her former classmates at Riddlesden's St Mary's Primary School have reunited to plant flowers in Casey's Corner, a special memorial garden in the school grounds.

It was the first time some of the pupils, who now attend secondary schools across the district, had seen each other since their days at St Mary's.

With Casey's parents and family in attendance, they planted lavender and lilies - Casey's favourite flowers. Organiser Robyn Warke, 14, a pupil at Oakbank School, said: "To make sure she wasn't forgotten we tried to get hold of everyone who knew her and were friends with her at the time.

"We also wanted everyone to come and see the memorial garden and spend time in it.

"Lilac and lavender were her favourite colours and flowers, so we are planting some of them for her."

Casey's parents, Debbie Haley and Stuart Mason, said it was an emotional occasion for them.

Miss Haley, from Keighley, said: "I am overwhelmed, it is all very nice.

"I try and come to the garden whenever I can. I am very touched by this today."

Mr Mason, who now lives in Derby, said he was still traumatised by his daughter's death and thought about Casey every day.

He said: "I just wish she was alive, she was my princess.

"I have pictures up of her all around my house and on my phone, and I say every night to her picture goodnight my little princess' and in the morning, good morning my little girl'.

"It is just God's way, but I never thought it would happen to me. I wasn't there when she died and it has been very hard."
