THE academic year ended on a high for Keighley year nine school pupils, with a ceremony held to mark the completion of an important stage of their education.

The graduation event was staged for year nine students at University Academy Keighley (UAK), who have all finished their key stage three level studies.

A UAK spokesman explained: "Awards were presented to represent degree honours, with 1:1, 2:1 and 2:2 depending on attendance and conduct through the academy’s Positive Discipline system.

"Nearly half the year group achieved a 1:1 for having attendance above 95 per cent and the required silver level in positive conduct.

"This was not only an opportunity to acknowledge achievements so far, but also to mark the next step in their education.

"The next two years will require a shift in emphasis, maturity and ways of learning in their studies, so the graduation was as much to prepare them mentally for this as it was to celebrate.

"Our students were treated to a party afterwards, where some more fun awards were issued such as: ‘best hairstyle’, ‘most likely to be an inventor’ or ‘most likely to become a best-selling author’, followed by a disco with staff joining in the fun as well."
