A LAMB reared in the Worth Valley was one of the prize winners at this year's Yorkshire Show.

The animal, which picked up a first prize in the commercial lamb carcass section, was reared by father and son team John and Jonathan Collier, of Denby Hill Farm, Oakworth. They also achieved a fourth placed carcass in the same category.

The Colliers, who have been entering animals in the Yorkshire Show for at least 25 years, managed second and third places in the butchers lambs section, and first, second and fourth placed entries in the breeding sheep category.

Jonathan Collier said: "We're only a small farm with a limited income and we're competing with people who can afford to spend thousands on their sheep.

"I'm very pleased that we're being able to keep up with some of the show's big names. We're getting a good name for ourselves."

The Denby Hill lamb carcasses which impressed the Yorkshire Show judges were supplied to C&L Herd Butchers of Ingrow, Keighley.

Chris Herd, the owner of the butchers, said: "We are very proud to support the local farmers of the Worth Valley.

"The Colliers always do well in the show. They have real talent, and it's nice to see this local success. I think it's fantastic for the area that a small farm in Oakworth is achieving wins at such a major event."
