A POPULAR annual fundraising event for Manorlands is back.

People are once again being invited to walk under the stars, whilst remembering loved ones and supporting the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

The countdown has been launched to the Starlight Hike, which takes place on Saturday, September 29.

The event will again feature the Starlight Express, courtesy of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

And Keighley-based Stirk Lambert and Co Accountants is repeating its backing as main event sponsor.

Richard Hudson, a partner at the firm, said: "This is a fantastic event which brings everyone together for such a good cause.

"Stirk Lambert is very pleased to give its backing for another year and looks forward to taking part once again."

Hayley Ibbotson, senior community fundraiser at Manorlands, said the hike this year would retain many elements but that there were also some changes.

"People really enjoy the feel-good atmosphere and the shared emotion of remembering loved ones with other walkers who are doing the same," she added.

"We've made a few changes this year to make the event even better and we're continuing to share those on our Facebook page.

"Entrants can expect new medals, T-shirts and a few other changes on the night!

"Following feedback from participants, this year people can guarantee a place on the first train of the evening by selecting the 'super early bird' option.

"The Starlight Hike is the biggest event in the Manorlands fundraising calendar and the funds raised through sponsorship are absolutely vital to our care services, both at the hospice and in the community."

The event will start at Oxenhope Station, where participants will be able to take part in a warm-up and enjoy entertainment, including stalls and music.

They will then board the Starlight Express to Oakworth, where the walk itself begins.

Walkers will follow a marshalled, 10km route, which includes the hospice grounds.

Early-bird entry to the event costs £12 for adults and £5 for under-16s.
