    Cadets on the march

A group of air cadets from Wharfedale has just completed a gruelling 50-mile road march at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering at Cosford.

Stewart Flight, Andy Lynam, Nick Wilde, Dan Connor, Luke Dowling, Ben Bridge, all 17, and William Paterson, 18, took two days to complete the march alongside cadets from Britain and other countries.

They have now qualified to take part in the 100-mile Nijmegen march in Holland this summer. The Nijmegen march has been carried out since 1909 and around 40,000 people participate every year. It was first done to prove the fitness of the Dutch army.

Mr Lynam said the Cosford event was a tough challenge involving more than 1,000 participants.
