Health provision in Bradford will benefit from the donation of thousands of pounds thanks to local firm Sovereign Healthcare.

The cash plan provider, based in Manningham Lane, has donated more than £50,000 to seven of Yorkshire’s NHS Trusts, with £24,000 of that going to trusts in the Bradford district.

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust were both presented with £8,000 worth of grants by Sovereign.

These were both made up of a £4,000 hospital grant and a £4,000 nurses training grant.

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust was handed a £8,000 donation, as were Trusts in Leeds, Calderdale and Huddersfield, Wakefield and Harrogate.

Debra Gilderdale, director of operations and nursing at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted to have received such a generous donation from Sovereign Health Care. The donation has enabled staff across all levels of the organisation to enhance their skills and knowledge and gain access to information and resources, enhancing the quality of care.”

Karen Dawber, chief nurse at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted and grateful that once again Sovereign Health Care has chosen us as one of its nominated charities. This very generous donation will be put to very good use.”

Sovereign is one of the UK’s longest established health care cash plan providers, and since 2009 has donated more than £5 million to charities and community projects in Bradford and West Yorkshire.

It supports organisations that have a particular focus on improving health and wellbeing and encouraging people to live healthy lifestyles.

Russ Piper, chief executive of Sovereign Health Care, said: “Sovereign Health Care has a long history of supporting local hospitals and nurses training, and we’re extremely proud of our track record in supporting vital NHS services.

“We are now the only cash plan provider based in West Yorkshire, so supporting Bradford’s NHS Foundation Trusts is a key part of our community programme which aims to make a positive difference to people’s lives.”

In recent years Sovereign has donated £200,000 to Bradford Royal Infirmary to develop innovative surgery for prostate cancer patients, and has given the Yorkshire Air Ambulance a £70,000 grant, and has also supported a number of smaller local charities.
