A QUALITY watchdog has praised the overall running of a hospital in Bingley.

Care Quality Commission inspectors visited The Yorkshire Clinic in Bradford Road, Cottingley, last October and then carried out an unannounced inspection last November and their report was published yesterday.

The 56-bed private hospital specialises in surgery but also provides services for children and young people, and outpatients and diagnostic imaging.

The vast majority of its patients are referrals which are funded by the NHS.

The hospital was ranked good in all five categories for being safe, caring, effective, well-led and responsive to people’s needs.

The CQC report said the service managed staffing effectively and services always had enough staff with the appropriate skills, experience and training to keep patients safe and to meet their care needs.

Staff were encouraged to report incidents and inspectors saw good sharing of learning following incidents.

Training levels were high and the visiting teams saw good practice being carried out in relation to infection prevention and control and medicines.

The inspectors also found some outstanding areas which included a new senior children’s nurse building links to the local authority safeguarding children’s board.

There were no breaches of regulations but there were some possible improvements that could be made such as creating more child-focused designated areas and making sure all staff receive annual appraisals, the report states.

The report states: “One person we spoke with said the nurses were lovely and they were happy with the whole process.

"Another person we spoke with said staff attitude is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble.

"The third person we spoke with said everything had been excellent and they also said, things have been better than their previous stay four years earlier.

"The final person we spoke with said there was good patient focus and the premises were very good.”

Debbie Craven, general manager at The Yorkshire Clinic - which is part of the Ramsay Health Care UK Operations Limited - said she was pleased with report's findings and praised the "hard work and dedication" of its staff.

“I am extremely proud that The Yorkshire Clinic has been rated good by the CQC and the result is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of all the staff," said Ms Craven.

“I am delighted that the inspectors recognised the value we place on delivering high standards of patient care and we will always continue to strive to deliver the very best health care to our local community.”
