TWO Bradford care homes have been told they must improve by quality watchdogs who have published their latest round of reports.

Although the inspectors said the caring was good at Woodleigh Rest Home, in Brewery Lane, Queensbury, they found it needed to improve its safety, its effectiveness and its responsiveness. The way it was led was rated inadequate by the inspectors.

Some bedrooms were cold with no hot water. Menus lacked variety and choices were limited for some people.

People’s care records were not all up to date and issues that needed to be sorted out by the service provider were not being completed in a timely fashion, the inspectors found.

Parkfield House Care Home in Thwaites Brow Road, Keighley, also needs to improve, according to the inspectors.

A recent CQC inspection found that some areas of the home needed refurbishing, care plans and other records needed improving, appraisals for staff were not completed and staff supervision was not regular or consistent.

Meanwhile two home care agencies in the city have been rated good.

H F Trust - Bradford DCA, which is based in Bierley Lane, was praised for its work helping young people with learning difficulties and their families move into adult services.

Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission said that the agency had played a vital role in making sure that the transitions were “smooth”.

Synergy Home Care, in Manor Row, Bradford, also impressed inspectors who gave it a good ranking.

The inspection team had visited on July 20 to see the staff caring for 164 people that day in their homes and communities.

The quality of care was supervised by senior staff who did spot checks, said the report.

The inspectors also mentioned that there were regular carers who were familiar with people’s needs.
