A GROUP working to enhance facilities at Airedale Hospital is aiming to recruit more volunteers.

The Friends of Airedale Hospital charity wants to take on additional, enthusiastic people "with good communication skills" prepared to help it fundraise.

A spokesman for the charity said: "We are looking for people who can help put up posters and distribute leaflets in their community and drop off and pick up collection boxes.

"We also need people who can support our events by giving a few hours of their time to come along and help promote our charity.

"We welcome people's ideas, so if they want to organise their own fundraising effort, that’s great."

Profits from the café and shops in the hospital's Outpatients wing and in the main entrance foyer are the main source of revenue for the charity. However, it also receives individual donations and money from car boot sales held from April to September.

All profits are reinvested in the hospital to improve the patient experience. The cash funds extras such as the hospital Wi-Fi, comfortable chairs and televisions for waiting rooms, therapy exercise equipment and mobile hairdressing equipment.

The spokesman added: "One recent new development is the launch of our new weekly lottery.

"There is a chance to win up to £25,000 by matching up to six numbers in sequence.

"Tickets cost £1, 50p of which goes to the charity. If 2,000 people sign up, then we can buy facilities worth £50,000 a year.

"However, we need help to promote the lottery, as well as assistance with other fundraising activities.

"Whether someone just has a few hours free on an irregular basis, days free during the school holidays or would like to offer support on a more regular basis, we'd like them to get in touch."
