MUCH-NEEDED cash has been raised for baby charity Tommy’s by babies and toddlers taking part in a superhero ‘sensathon’.

The class at Birkenshaw Community Hall saw babies up to the age of 13 months dressing as superheroes in an effort to raise a combined £375,000 target at Baby Sensory classes across the country.

The money raised will help fund Tommy’s four research centres, which carries out research into still birth, premature birth and miscarriage.

Brooke Firth, who runs the classes locally, said: “It went really well and we expect to have raised about £250 across all the classes that I run in north Kirklees.

“In Birkenshaw we had costumes such as Wonder Woman, Bat Girl, Superman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

She added that the money had been raised through a raffle and that prizes had been donated by local businesses.

Jane Brewin, chief executive of Tommy’s, said: “Sensathon is a great way for mums and dads to involve their little ones in a good cause.”

“Tommy’s relies on the generosity and hard work of its supporters like Baby Sensory to continue its pioneering research to prevent pregnancy complications.”
