SUPERHEROES came to the rescue of a sponsored toddle round Myrtle Park in Bingley to help raise funds for a little girl trapped in a 'broken body'.

The fancy dress fundraiser, which set off from the town's Market Place, was for Isabelle Barnett, of Sandy Lane, Bradford, who was a healthy baby until the age of 13 months when she withdrew into a silent world of her own after developing a condition called Retts Syndrome.

So far, with the help of well-wishers her family have raised about £7,000 to help scientists try to find a cure for her and already have a few thousand towards buying a specialist machine to help her communicate that will cost between £8,000 and £15,000.

Isabelle's dad, Simon, and six of his friends are also planning a 100-mile bike ride on Saturday, April 30.

It took repeated visits to the GP and months of waiting to see consultant paediatricians at Airedale General Hospital before the family was told a random faulty chromosome meant Isabelle had the condition which affects her brain.

Retts Syndrome can cause severe physical and mental disability and begins in early childhood. It affects approximately one in every 10,000 to 12,000 girls.

Isabelle uses a frame to help her stand, she has physiotherapy and goes for specialist play therapy which her mum and dad copy at home.
