BRADFORD Council and Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust have signed up to a national project to help improve specialist mental health support across the district.

Both organisations have agreed to be part of the Social Work for Better Mental Health Project, a Department of Health initiative aimed at finding ways of providing better support and care for those with mental health issues, their families, carers and friends.

The project, which will officially begin in London on Thursday, will also look to support staff through new legislation and policies, such as the Care Act 2014, and improve working practices.

Service users, staff, and managers across the Bradford district will be asked to take part in a consultation to inform how mental health social work can be developed or improved.

Councillor Ralph Berry, executive member for Health and Social Care at Bradford Council, said: "We welcome this project which seeks to improve the quality of care received by people with mental health issues.

"Bradford is already being held up as a good example of effective partnership working between the council and the NHS, and we hope to build on this strength."
