A SPECIAL bus service giving health advice to parents and children has proved a big hit with schools in Bradford.
The scheme was the brainchild of Helen Procter, the general manager at Leylands Medical Centre, who wanted to tackle the high number of GP visits by parents worried about illnesses to their child which could have been treated at home.
Teaming up with health charity Hale, the bus visited six primary schools, and staff have spoken to hundreds of children and parents about how to deal with common illnesses like coughs, colds and fevers.
Before visiting the bus, 47 per cent of parents said they would have gone to their GP about their child’s illness, but after visiting, 92 per cent said they would go to a pharmacist first.
