BRADFORD District Care Trust has the highest rate of staff choosing to have their flu jab than any other mental health trust in England, according to Public Health England.

Figures released show that the Trust vaccinated 73.7 per cent of frontline staff between September 1 and December 31 last year. The national average is 52.6 per cent.

The Trust says it is as a result of a campaign run by the Infection Prevention and Employee Health and Wellbeing teams, who are targeting areas most likely to be affected by a flu outbreak, such as in-patient wards and dental clinics.

Staff nurse Eileen McVay said: "I had the flu jab so I don’t pass the virus onto others who are more at risk than I am. I work with older people and some have complex health issues. I’d hate to think I’d passed something onto one of them when I could have prevented it."

Last winter the Trust vaccinated 70 per cent of frontline staff.
