ONE candidate for Shipley in this year's General Election has appeared on University Challenge while another got star-struck when meeting the Black Eyed Peas.
But who is who?

We asked all candidates standing in the constituency to give us five fun facts about themselves, and this is what they said:

STEVE CLAPCOTE (LABOUR)

• Steve has dual British-Canadian citizenship;

• He was the captain of the Liverpool University team in the 1998/99 series of 'University Challenge';

• He carried out artificial insemination when he worked on a pig farm;

• Steve has got a tattoo on the top of his right arm;

• He was in ‘Grey’ six in the Cubs and ‘Peewits’ patrol in the Scouts.

PHILIP DAVIES (CONSERVATIVE)

• Philip launched the Better Off Out campaign in Parliament back in April 2006, which argues for the UK leaving the EU;

• He has twice won awards at the Spectator Parliamentarian of the Year Awards - one for Parliamentarian of the Year, and one for Readers' Representative of the Year;

• Philip was the 2nd most rebellious MP in Parliament between 2010 and 2015;

• Before entering Parliament Philip spent 12 years working for Asda starting out at the bottom and rising through the ranks to become a senior marketing manager;

• Philip's parents had a small betting shop business when he was growing up and his favourite sport is horse-racing.

DARREN HILL (YORKSHIRE FIRST)

• Darren is the University & College Union Convenor for Leeds Beckett University;

• He has recently submitted his draft thesis for his Doctor of Philosophy award;

• He has a book about mental health and addiction coming out with Palgrave Macmillan, called Dual Diagnosis: A Psycho Social Perspective;

• He is a massive fan of fantasy and science fiction novels, anything with aliens or elves in it;

• He is a trustee-director of Barca-Leeds, who are an organisation that provide substance misuse, mental health, youth work and community development services, within west Leeds.

WAQAS ALI KHAN (UKIP)

• Waqas can cook;

• He doesn't like to follow trends;

• He "doesn't know what alcohol tastes like, seriously";

• He rarely gives promises;

• He says: "I love being me".

ANDREW MARTIN (LIBERAL DEMOCRAT)

• Andrew was adopted at 11 months;

• He is at his happiest in misty rain walking across the moor;

• He was turned down from joining the army because of chronic asthma;

• Andy met the Black Eyed Peas and was entirely tongue-tied;

• He took his six-year-old daughter to Remembrance Day Services for the first time last year as every new generation should understand.

• Kevin enjoys playing the piano very badly;
