James Lewthwaite was born in 1952 in Calcutta to Cumbrian parents. He studied classics at Bristol Grammar School, winning scholarship to Cambridge. He then studied archaeology and anthropology then researched the prehistory of the western Mediterranean, as well as researched and taught at Bradford, Lancaster and Sheffield Universities. Since 1985 he has been employed in the security industry. From 2004 to 2007 he was the BNP councillor for Wyke and group leader on the Council. In 2008 he co-founded the Democratic Nationalists. His hobbies include reading, especially military history, philology, philosophy, ethnography and travel.
