BOLTON United Harrier Tom Carson took bronze in the Radcliffe 10K on Sunday.
He shadowed Swinton’s Matthew Clark from the start before both were overtaken by eventual winner Nick Leigh (34mins 2secs) from Altrincham.
Ian Selby was Bolton’s next finisher in what was the third race of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix series, crossing the line 13th of 275 runners and first in the over-45 age group.
Simon Dally was 16th, Mark Swannell 22nd, Karl Darcy impressed on his debut, and Pete Kearney outwitted team-mates Chris Povey, Daryl Bentley, James Rideout and Ken Fowler (first M60) for the first time to lead home the rest of the A team.
B team member Eric Ranicar won the men’s over-60s category, and Jayne Dickinson was first in the ladies’ over-35s.
Unusually large turnouts from Horwich RMI (31 finishers, including the winning men’s team of Martyn Bell, Alastair Murray and Richard Howarth), and Burnden Roadrunners saw Bolton’s CLGP lead reduced.
John Knowles was the first of Burnden’s 49 runners home in 10th, and second men’s over-40.
A number of his club-mates took age category prizes, including Steve Nolan, who won the M50, Keith Thomas, who was the first M55, Gwen Kinloch, the first F50, Anne Ferguson first F55, Kirsty Normanton 3rd F40, Lesley Fisher second F50, Isaline Kneale, second F45, while Normanton, Kinloch and Fisher won the ladies’ team prize.

Three young Bolton United Harriers represented Greater Manchester in the Sportshall Athletics UK Finals at the LG Arena in Birmingham.
Ellie Gettinby, Georgia Lever and Charlotte Plant competed in the under-13s girls event which saw GM finish third, eight points behind winners Hampshire.
Ellie and Charlotte got maximum points in the speedbounce, Charlotte second overall with a score of 93 bounces in 30 seconds, six fewer than the national record. And she still has another year in the age group.
Georgia won silver in the high jump with 1.46m, beating her personal best by 10cm. Horwich’s Katie Shingler also helped give GM their highest placed finish since 1984.
