A last-ditch election hustings has been organised at short notice in Bradford East.

The hustings will take place at 7pm tonight (Tuesday) at the Hitching Post pub on Leeds Road, Idle.

At least three of the seat's seven candidates will attend to be grilled by members of the public.

Explaining the 11th-hour nature of the event, organiser Rupy Hayre told the T&A: "We have tried desperately to organise one over the last month but it just hasn't come together for one reason or another, but now we have finally managed to get it off the ground."

Bradford East is the only constituency in the Bradford district not to have already had some form of public hustings during the election campaign.

Ms Hayre added: "We feel there has been a lack of informed debate in Bradford East so we are glad to have finally managed to get this event to happen."

She said that Mark Trafford (Conservative), Jonathan Barrass (Ukip) and David Ward (Independent) had confirmed they will attend the event, while Paul Parkins (Better For Bradford) had confirmed he could not attend.

Also standing in Bradford East are Imran Hussain (Labour), Mark Jewell (Liberal Democrat) and Andy Stanford (Green). It is unclear whether they will be present at tonight's event.
