FORMER Labour party deputy leader Harriet Harman visited Bradford today to support Judith Cummins and her re-election campaign in Bradford South.

Ms Harman and Rachel Reeves, who is seeking re-election as Labour MP for Leeds West, joined Ms Cummins on the campaign trail in Wibsey to highlight "the stark reality of Tory cuts to school budgets".

They spoke with parents at Wibsey Primary School about Government plans to "cut over £6million from the budgets of Bradford South schools" which they based on data compiled by trade unions from Government information.

Ms Cummins said: "Bradford South's schools will be hit hard by the Tories' planned cuts. We will lose funding equivalent to 172 teachers - that's an average of more than five teachers per school. One school in our area will lose the equivalent of 10 teachers from its budget.

"For each pupil in Bradford South there will be average cut of £565 - with the highest cut being £880 per pupil at one local school.

"In total the data shows Bradford South schools will lose more than £6million in funding over the coming two years."

Ms Harman said:"Judith has been a powerful advocate in Parliament on this issue, speaking out against the cuts to school budgets and calling for fair funding.

"Bradford is particularly hard hit by these cuts, far worse than other areas in the region. It's vital we have hard working, local Labour MPs, like Judith, in Parliament holding the Tories to account."
