BRADFORD’S Green Party has made a last-ditch effort to build a so-called ‘progressive alliance’ in Shipley.
The Greens have stood aside in the constituency and endorsed Women’s Equality Party leader Sophie Walker, in a bid to oust incumbent Tory Philip Davies. But the Liberal Democrats turned down a request to follow suit and selected candidate Caroline Jones.
Now the Greens have urged the party to think again and withdraw before nominations close on Thursday.
Matt Edwards, the campaign coordinator for Bradford Green Party, said: “It’s time to usher in an era of grown up politics and work together.”
Mrs Jones said her paperwork was already in and she would not be withdrawing.
She said: “Voters are not blocks of people to be moved around by political parties. They can and will make up their own minds and if they want to vote tactically, they are perfectly capable of doing so.”
