DRAMATIC footage of the driver of a high-powered Audi performing a reckless overtake is being investigated by police.

The incident was captured on the dashboard camera of a driver heading towards Bradford from Keighley along Bradford Road, Riddlesden, Keighley.

As the driver approached the junction with Beechwood Avenue, a grey Audi sped past on the wrong side of the road and narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a car coming the other way.

The Audi driver managed to squeeze through a small gap before speeding off into the distance.

Sergeant Cameron Buchan, who is leading Operation Steerside- a district-wide road safety crackdown, said: “It is a no-brainer - it is dangerous driving.

"The driver is putting people’s safety and people’s lives at risk, and also putting property at risk of significant damage.”

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old private hire driver has had his licence revoked after being caught driving dangerously in Bradford.

Steerside officers spotted the cab being driven “erratically” in Manchester Road, Bradford.

The driver was one of 127 motorists stopped last week by Steerside officers.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “A private hire driver was seen to be driving erratically on Manchester Road. He was stopped by police.

“His licence to work as a private hire driver was revoked.”

Sgt Buchan added: “His driving was of a low standard - far lower than I would expect of a ‘professional driver’. The officers who saw it were appalled.

“He was undertaking, passing vehicles on the other side of the road, and switching lanes to make progress.

“I would expect a better standard of driving from people who drive for a living.”

The man is set to appear in court in the near future facing various motoring offences, said a police spokesman.

Also caught last week was an uninsured and unlicensed dangerous driver who failed to stop for police when requested.

The 42-year-old will appear at Bradford Crown Court next month on charges of driving without insurance, driving without a licence and dangerous driving.

A police spokesman said officers spotted the driver in Eccleshill.

Of the 127 dangerous drivers caught last week by Steerside officers, 39 were for speeding, five for using a mobile phone at the wheel, 56 for not wearing a seatbelt while driving, 14 for driving without insurance, and 13 other road-related offences.

A total of 15 vehicles were seized by police.

The figures took the total number of drivers caught during Steerside - which started in February last year - to 8,783.

A total of 3,266 motorists have been caught speeding, 2,990 were not wearing a seatbelt while driving, 766 were spotted using a mobile phone at the wheel, 693 did not have insurance to drive, and there were 1,068 other road-related offences. A total of 754 vehicles have been seized.
